Local food production and short supply chains

International conference
Refarm Linné had the privilege of visiting Slovenia in June as part of an International Leader project.
Sweden has been represented by Refarm Linne and Leader Linné Småland together with LAG boards from Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Finland and Italy.
The final conference was held in Kamnik, Slovenia with a focus on Local Food Production and how to achieve short supply chains.
Initially, each participant presented good examples from their region and then we made a number of study visits to the region around Kamnik.

Increased degree of self-sufficiency
It is not only about sustainability from an environmental perspective, but to a great extent economic and social sustainability. To locally and regionally build and maintain structures to obtain a preparedness – you can call it a food defense.

Local and regional project presentations

Initially, each project partner presented good examples of business models that promote local-regional food production and lead to short supply chains.

Good practice

We had the privilege of visiting a number of local producers and got to see good examples. There were, for example, producers of goat cheese, local craft breweries, fish farming with its own restaurant and a primary school that grows its own fruit and vegetables in a neighboring garden.
It was very fascinating to see how, high up in the mountains on the grassy plateau, they herd cows and produce the local speciality, Trnic, a hard cheese.

The road to success

International exchange, collaboration and knowledge transfer cannot be overestimated. Through this international Leader project, all partners have had the opportunity to both contribute and take part in good examples. It is together that we tackle today’s climate challenges and build sustainable structures for the future.
